How Founders Think

The operating systems of people who built things that lasted.

Most writing about founders records what they did. These profiles set out how they decide: the few rules they keep returning to, the trade-offs they accept, and the habits that survive when the company is a hundred times larger.

Each profile draws on the founder’s own words, from shareholder letters, memoirs, memos and long-form interviews, checked against the record. Quotes are sourced and dated. Where the words and the results disagree, the profile says so.

They are written for people who run things. Read one for the method, then compare it with another: the principles often conflict, and the conflict is where the choices are.
